I am Joshika Saraf and it is an absolute honor for me to welcome each one of you to the 2018 Special Session of Rotaract Global Model United Nations Conference (RGMUN) in Delhi, India to be held from 20th April 2018 to 22nd April 2018. My association with RGMUN goes back to the sessions that were held in Belgrade, Serbia (2015) and the United Nations Headquarters, New York City (2016) where I was given the opportunity to chair the UNGA-Legal and the UNHCR respectively.
Keeping in consideration, all the previous RGMUN editions in Baia Mare – Romania, London – United Kingdom, Belgrade – Serbia, the UN Headquarters – New York, Sofia –Bulgaria and Beirut-Lebanon, it is correct to say that Rotaract is indeed felicitous for the organization of a successful international conference that offers substantially sound debate as well deliberation, which inturn leads to effective decisions. RGMUN endorses the preparation of all participants to attain knowledge and high level skills that can be put to good use in the future, including possession of instruments for a better understanding of global dynamics and their elucidation, and the ability to relate and further manage affiliations with the globalized world in which we live, in terms of cultures, political opinions, and value systems other than their own.
Bearing in mind Prof. Jeffrey D. Sachs’ idea about the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the theme for this year’s conference is “Sustainable Development Goals: Fostering a brighter future.” I firmly believe that the SDGs will give us a chance to eradicate the evil of poverty and to ensure that the basic human rights are well respected. The agendas/topic areas to be discussed in this very special session resonate with the idea mentioned above and I look forward to some remarkable discussions in the committee sessions.
To conclude, I must admit that I am waiting to host you all with my entire team at the City of Djinns with all eagerness, for experiencing a symbiotic relationship like never before.
May the odds be ever in your favor!
