The International Atomic Energy Agency simulated at DTU RotaractMUN 2018
The International Atomic Energy Agency, or IAEA, is an independent international organization, part the of United Nations systems.
It is the primary international centre for cooperation in the nuclear field. It is widely known world’s “Atoms for Peace” organization within the United Nations family.
The IAEA was established on 29 July 1957 in response to the expectations generated by the diverse uses of nuclear technology. Currently,the IAEA partners with other UN organizations and Member states to promote safe nuclear technologies, thereby contributing to international peace and security and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
The IAEA stands for 3 main missions:
1. Peaceful uses: Promoting the peaceful use of nuclear energy by its member states.
2. Safeguards: Implementing safeguards to verify that nuclear energy is not used for military purposes.
3. Nuclear safety: Promoting high standards for nuclear safety.
